Dear friends,
2009 was the first full year we were in operation since we came into existence in April 2008 and became fully operational from January 2009. It has been a satisfying year and one that is historical because we made our first building purchase! Taking advantage of the recession that hit the property market we bought the shop building immediately adjacent to our centre using our savings and personal loans.
This year (2010) will see us restoring the building to be a new training centre for us. We will increase our enrolment capacity from 25 to 45, which will be a wonderful news to many other learning disabled people in and around Seremban. Our increased capacity is crucial because many learning disable children below 18 will soon 'graduate' to qualify to join us so we can train them to become job employable.
Last year we did not send any trainees to the job market as no vacancies were available. We hope this year we can send out a few who are ready, skill-wise as well as mentally prepared to leave. To be able to earn a living on their own is a momentous thing to our trainees who found jobs. And we certainly want more and more of our trainees to leave us for greener pastures.
Increasing our funding and engaging more staff and volunteers will be our major concerns this year. If you are living in Seremban and can spare your time we will be happy to consider you as our volunteers. Those who can teach skills in cardmaking and bakery are especially needed. We look forward to your financial support in 2 areas:
1. Partnership Appeal - to support our operating expense which will increase to RM100,000 annually when 2 centres are operational.
2. Building Fund Appeal - to pay for the cost of building purchased, repair, renovation and refurbishing, totalling about RM250,000.
Do visit the Appeals Page for more information. Help us provide a better future to the Learning Disabled. Thank you.
